shadowhive: (Finn/Poe Need a pilot)

Hi everyone, I’ve just read some of the older comics today so some thoughts under the cut. (I’ve never done one of these before so sorry if it’s bad.)

So a few months back a local store had some of the latest Star Wars graphic novels for £5 and they were most Vader ones vol 2, Vader Down and the Shu-Torun war. I wanted to reread the very first issues before I got to them though, but never found the time until today.

So I figure I’ll give a few of my thoughts, what I can remember of them anyway.

I’d read up to at least issue 4 before, but not 5 or 6 when I first got the issues (at the time I was gonna read all the comics but quickly got overwhelmed).

It was interesting seeing Vader’s take on things as well as how he, being the only survivor, took the blame for the Death Star’s destruction. The arc itself is very much a set up one. It shows how Vader’s position has fallen, as well as him meeting Aphra and forming his partnership with her. The stuff with Cylo and his trainees seems like a set up too, something that will hopefully get resolved later.

There is a lot of it that I’ve liked. The scene in Jabba’s palace where it’s clear he considers opening the trap door on Vader, the last scene of that issue where Vader has slain Tuskens. The plot line of the second one where he gets someone to keep an eye on him, and gets rid of him the first chance he gets. I loved Chlo’s whale ship, it looks really impressive and definitely a unique location that I hope turns up again.

I wonder if the Geonosian queen survived the attack on her. I think the sterilisation ofGeonosis is just a said storyline, especially since it’s been implied that queen is from the egg that appeared in Rebels.

I like too that he had references to the prequels, especially when they arrived on Geonosis, Vader’s ship being the same type as Padme’s (I think it might have been confirmed as being the same ship but I’m not sure) and the flashbacks to ROTS at the end of the very last issue.

And that last shot of issue six, with Vader standing before the shattered window of the star destroyer after finding out he has a son. That’s such a powerful image. I’m glad it shown up in Vader as well as the main Atar Wars series.

Anyway, those are my main thoughts that come to mind. I’m sure I’d have deeper ones if I’d wrote this as .i read but I didn’t so.
